PTCA balloon dilatation catheter is a medical device used to treat blockages in the coronary arteries. The catheter is inserted through a small incision in the groin, arm or wrist and threaded up to the coronary artery where it is inflated using a balloon. The balloon expands, pushing the plaque against the artery wall, reducing the blockage and improving blood flow. Once the blockage is opened, the balloon is deflated and removed. The procedure is also known as balloon angioplasty and is often accompanied by the placement of a stent to keep the artery open.
